This lecture is aimed at anybody who has an interested in photography, specifically portraiture. The first part of the lecture will be  focused on the nature of portraits, and in the second part (after a short break) participants will do some more practical work for those who have an interest in improving their own shooting. This part is aimed at beginner photographers and those who would like a refresher. The technical instruction refers mostly to traditional cameras, but all the principles apply equally to smart phone photography. Participants will learn how to shoot better portraits. The basics of compositions in portraits and basic lighting, including some flash will be covered. 

Leonie Marinovich is a documentary photographer and filmmaker originally from South Africa and based in Cambridge for the past 7 years. Over the past 20 years she has made documentary films and shot and produced multimedia projects for global non-profit organizations focusing on topics that ranged from food security, water and sanitation, maternal health to tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS across Africa. Her work has always focused on humanitarian issues with a special focus on the issues that affect women and children. She is currently working on several personal and professional projects and also teaches photography at Harvard Extension School and Summer School.
