Cambridge City Community Schools and Youth Managers

Minutes of Meeting , Thursday, October 24, 1996

In attendance were: Judy Bibbins, Bob Goodwin, Marisol Arroyo, Lisa Deller, Eileen Keegan, Andrew Spooner, Roslyn Shoy of Managers Community & Youth, and Karen Carmean and Ted Burton of Library 21

To provide access to all the people of Cambridge and to insure that we manage our resources well, Library 21 is gathering information from as many groups as possible about what the people want.

What would you like in the library?

A. Community Activity Center

  • Community performance space MCY06
  • Small room to have activities for kids such as candlemaking & arts & crafts MCY06
  • Exhibits like on subjects which could be borrowed and then could be stored and could be used regularly at different sites like programs on multi-cultural, women, history, art, maps, books, etc. MCY06
  • Space for mother/ parent and children play groups (schools are busy during the day) MCY06
  • Flexible performance space MCY06

B. Community Information Center

  • Exchange of donated computer equipment- given because out of date but still good MCY06
  • Access to city laws and city ordinances which change MCY06
  • Community partnership programs with the universities and colleges in the area so we can know what we can visit and what resources we might have access to MCY06

C. Formal Education Support Center

  • Ability to order educational and training programs for a particular day so they can be used by a group when needed and planned MCY06
  • Consult on ways to interest kids in reading MCY06

D. Independent Learning Center

  • Language Labs where you can listen to tapes and learn languages. A lab with multi-
  • Learning languages with seeing it, hearing it, picking up accents MCY06
  • Teaching people to use the internet MCY06

H. Research Center

  • Keep track of the many PBS and other TV programs which are of continuing interest to many of us MCY06
  • Crime analysis reports for individual neighborhoods for crime prevention; access to the city police statistics to analyze crime and plan prevention strategies. MCY06
  • Trace genealogy- almost impossible now at the library because of poor microfiche, and information all over the place. We are way behind in MCY06genealogy. The Mormon church on Brattle Street has a computer with great access to computer information on genealogy. MCY06
