CCPD Appoints New Board Members

CCPD Welcomes Two New Advisory Board Members

We are pleased to report that the City Manager has appointed two new members to CCPD's Advisory Board. Valerie Hammond and Phil Kongtcheu join nine other members. Read about them below.

Valerie Hammond is a mother of two college aged sons, happily married for 25 years, and lives 10 blocks from where she was born and raised in North Cambridge. Although living with invisible disabilities from the very beginning of her life, it wasn’t until becoming a mother that she accepted, understood, and became an advocate for people living with disabilities. Valerie is a volunteer teacher at NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Massachusetts and a Parent Advocate Intern at the Federation for Children with Special Needs. She has spent two decades working with children's services, specialists and IEPs. Valerie loves her city and knows her city can and must do better for all people living with disabilities and their families.

Philibert (Phil) Kongtcheu, a polio survivor, is a long-time advocate of the rights of people with disabilities. He has served as a delegate at the Convention for the Rights of People with Disabilities, an international human rights treaty of the United Nations intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. Phil has worked tirelessly bringing greater awareness of people with paralytic polio. Phil is also an inventor, entrepreneur, producer and founder of eMotionRx,  a startup currently leading the development of a new family of exoskeletons to empower people with mobility impairments with affordable, cool, self-powered exoskeletons.

CCPD meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month from 5:30 to 7:00PM in the 2nd Floor Conference Room of 51 Inman Street, and are always open to the public.
