Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions

LED Lights at the Cambridge Library

In 2021, the City reduced greenhouse gas emissions (ghg) from municipal operations 38% below 2008 levels. Municipal onsite solar installations and energy efficiency actions along with a cleaner regional electricity grid all contributed to these reductions. Intensive planning is underway through the Municipal Facilities Improvement Plan, Zero Waste Master Plan and the Clean Fleet Initiative to develop strategies for 2030 and beyond, with the goal of reaching net zero emissions. The chart also depicts the significant impact of the planned procurement of 100% renewable electricity supply from a new renewable system with a commercial operation date on or about January 2025.
