Description

The City of Cambridge invites community members to join Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Manager Louis A. DePasquale for the dedication of the City’s COVID-19 Remembrance Memorial on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. A brief ceremony will be held at the Memorial site inside the main gate of the Cambridge Cemetery, at 71 Coolidge Avenue.

“I hope that this Memorial will serve as a place of reflection for all Cambridge residents who experienced loss during the pandemic,” said Mayor Siddiqui. “We will never forget the lives of Cambridge residents that were taken by COVID-19.”

In conjunction with the Offices of the Mayor and City Manager, the Department of Public Works installed new landscaping, a walkway, benches, and a memorial stone. The Memorial provides residents and families a place to reflect on the loss Cambridge has experienced and remember those residents who are no longer with us due to COVID-19.

“I want to thank the Mayor for her leadership and partnership on this COVID-19 Memorial,” said City Manager Louis A. DePasquale. “COVID-19 has impacted our entire community, and this Memorial at the Cambridge Cemetery provides a place for family, loved ones, and the broader community to pause and remember those who lost their lives to COVID-19.”

Since the emergence of the pandemic, there have been more than 7,500 COVID-19 cases and 125 deaths among Cambridge residents.
