2014 Cambridge Youth Police Academy

The Cambridge Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of 14 Cambridge youth from the 2014 Cambridge Youth Police Academy.

The Cambridge Youth Police Academy, which celebrated its fifth year, is a 6 week, 120 hour instructional program designed to expose participating youth, ages 14-18, to the various duties associated with the law enforcement profession through hands-on experience as part of the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Program. 

Officers Oswaldo Ortiz and Christine Levesque of the Youth & Family Services Unit served as the main program instructors and introduced teens to every day police work.  Youth participated in boot camp, virtual firearms training, a mock crime scene investigation, OUI class, a traffic enforcement overview, self-defense, CPR and also learned about different units within the department through demonstrations given by officers. Additionally, they visited the Lowell Police Academy and the Nashua Street Jail. 

For the second consecutive year, more females participated in this year’s academy than males.

A graduation ceremony was held on August 14 at the Cambridge Police Department where all 14 teens were given certificates for successfully completing the academy. For photos from the ceremony and the program, please visit https://www.facebook.com/CambridgePolice.
