Climate Change Preparedness & Resilience Plan for Alewife

The City will hold a public meeting on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Russell Youth Center, 680 Huron Avenue, to present and discuss the draft Climate Change Preparedness & Resilience (CCPR) Plan for the Alewife area. The CCPR Plan for the Alewife area represents the first component of the citywide CCPR Plan that will be completed in 2018. The plan addresses the physical and social risks to Cambridge from the changing climate that were evaluated in the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment.

Climate science indicates that Cambridge will experience increasing temperatures and precipitation as well as storm surge flooding associated with sea-level rise if no action is taken. The CCPR Plan proposes to reduce the community's risks through four categories of strategies: A Prepared Community, Adapted Buildings, Resilient Infrastructure, and Resilient Ecosystems. The draft plan has been issued in advance of the public meeting: access a draft of the CCPR Preparedness Plan here and the CCPR Alewife Preparedness Handbook here. Appendices and related documents are available on the project page under the CCPR tab.

The public meeting will involve a brief overview of the plan and a series of interactive stations where participants can learn more about the plan and provide feedback to the City. Following the meeting, a public comment period and process will run until December 21, 2017 (details to come).
