Cambridge Common in the fall

Cambridge has been recognized as a LEED Certified City for its leadership in sustainability efforts. The announcement follows the integration of STAR Communities into LEED for Cities and LEED for Communities, a program managed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). In 2016, Cambridge received the highest 5-STAR rating in the U.S. from STAR Communities for its commitment to furthering clean energy practices, sustainable transportation options, access to resources for residents of diverse cultures and backgrounds, local retail support and many other programs and initiatives.

LEED for Cities and LEED for Communities is an internationally recognized urban sustainability rating system that provides third-party verification of the current performance of cities and communities, and helps them develop responsible, sustainable and specific plans for green energy, water, waste, transportation and other facts that contribute to the human experience.

LEED helps cities and communities benchmark current performance, track performance metrics, communicate continuous improvement, and educate residents, employees, visitors, and business owners to demonstrate commitment to sustainability, human health, and economic prosperity.

“We are helping cities and counties develop responsible, sustainable, and specific plans for energy, water, waste, transportation and many other factors that contribute to raising the standard of living for all people around the world,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president & CEO, USGBC. “Cambridge is to be congratulated for its commitment to ensuring a place where people, nature and businesses can all thrive.”
