Mayor McGovern to Convene Resource Connector 1/28 for Residents Impacted by Federal Shutdown

CAMBRIDGE, MA (Friday, January 25, 2019)—Mayor Marc C. McGovern is convening a Resource Connector for residents impacted by the prolonged federal shutdown on Monday, January 28, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at City Hall. Representatives from numerous municipal and congressional offices will be on hand to answer questions residents might have about federal assistance programs, such as EBT benefits and Section 8 vouchers, and to connect individuals to available resources and programs.

Organizational participants in Monday’s resource connector into the Office of Congresswoman Katherine Clark; the Office of Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley; the Office of Mayor Marc McGovern; Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee (CEOC); Cambridge Department of Veteran Services; Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA); Cambridge Multi Service Center; Cambridge Police Department (CPD); Find It Cambridge; Commission on Immigrant Rights and Citizenship; and more to be announced.

“Trump’s shutdown is not only making it harder for federal workers and their families to pay rent or put food on the table, it is impacting Cambridge’s most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor McGovern. “Our residents are rightly worried that the programs they rely on to maintain a basic quality of life might not be funded. That this instability and fear is manufactured as a result of a political stunt by Mr. Trump is unconscionable. I am grateful to the organizations and individuals who have stepped forward to fill the gap created by the shutdown.”
