In coordination with National Weights and Measures Week, learn how to protect yourself from identity fraud at the gas pump.

Credit card skimmers have been found in fuel dispensers all across the nation and they can steal your personal information with the swipe of your card. Look for a security seal on the door panel. If it’s missing or broken, pay inside. These credit card skimmers can’t be seen from outside the pump. They are located inside the pump where the devices make a copy of the consumer’s credit card information. This is fraud and thieves are stealing personal information for criminal use. The Cambridge Department of Weights & Measures conducts regular gas pump inspections and tests equipment but please be vigilant if equipment does not look right. We will continue looking for skimmers with every pump inspection. Please contact Cambridge Weights and Measures Department.
