City Hall Lights Up in Blue for Autism Awareness

Cambridge City officials gathered in front of City Hall this evening, along with students and leaders from Cambridge Public Schools, and members of the community, to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, 2019 by lighting City Hall in Blue. Joined by the international community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world, light blue in recognition of people living with autism as a way to try to increase understanding and acceptance and foster worldwide support.

Nearly a quarter century ago, the Autism Society launched a nationwide effort to promote autism awareness, inclusion and self-determination for all, and assure that each person with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is provided the opportunity to achieve the highest possible quality of life. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disability, typically appearing during childhood and affecting a person's ability to communicate and interact with others.
