20 MPH Safety Zones in City Squares

Central Square Safety Zone

The new 20 MPH speed limit is now in effect in Kendall, Central, Inman, Harvard, and Porter Squares. The safety zones are part of an effort to continue to work towards the goal of eliminating traffic related fatalities and serious injuries, and is a key regulation change that will help the City get to its Vision Zero goal. Slowing down and being more observant is beneficial to all users of our transportation network, since traveling at 20 MPH or less provides folks more time to observe changing road conditions, and to react appropriately to avoid crashes. Next time you find yourself in one of the City's squares, keep an eye out for the new Safety Zone signs and remember to slow down for safer squares!
