New library at night

As part of its preparations for a safe and gradual reopening, the Cambridge Public Library will open the outside book drop at the Main Library at 449 Broadway for returns starting Monday, June 8.

The Main Library and the Library garage remain closed to the public. The Main Library book drop is located to the left of the front entry doors.

Please allow up to one week for your returned items to be removed from your library account. We anticipate a high volume of returns, and we are also implementing a 72-hour quarantine period for all returned materials for the safety of patrons and staff. We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding the extended processing time.

Branch libraries and branch library book drops remain closed, and we currently do not have a date for their reopening. Loan periods will be extended to July 31 for items checked out at a Cambridge location. We understand that some patrons may not be able to return their books at the Main Library. Library staff are happy to assist any patrons who are not able to return their items on time due to branch library book drop closures.

If you have oversize items that do not fit in the book drops, such as STEAM kits, please contact us at library@cambridgema.gov to make special arrangements for their return.
