Tom Angleberger and Cece Bell to Speak at Curious George Lecture

The Cambridge Public Library is pleased to announce that Tom Angleberger and Cece Bell, the author/illustrator couple who create memorable books for children including Bell’s Newbery Honor-winning autobiography El Deafo and Angleberger’s popular Origami Yoda series, will be the speakers of the fifth annual Margret and H.A. Rey Curious George Lecture. The lecture will take place virtually on Thursday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. This event connects children and their families to the magic of reading through a memorable experience with an author or illustrator. 

The lecture series is an initiative developed in partnership with the Cambridge Public Library, the Curious George Fund, and the Cambridge Public Library Foundation. The series aims to bring the community together to celebrate outstanding and engaging books for young readers. Speakers are chosen in honor of Margret and H.A. Rey, Cambridge residents who authored many beloved children’s books, including Curious George.

Rey Curious George Fund for their support of the Curious George Lecture,” said Dr. Maria McCauley, Director of Libraries. “I am excited that we are hosting Tom Angleberger and Cece Bell whose work inspired the magic of reading for so many people in our community.”

Rey, this inspiring couple creates books that children love," said Julie Roach, Manager of Youth Services. “Connecting children in our community with the creators of books that are meaningful to them can have a lasting impact. I’m thrilled this year's lecture will allow children to meet two of their favorite book creators and see how they work together." 

In addition to El Deafo, Bell is the author and illustrator of Geisel award–winning Rabbit and Robot: The Sleepover, Rabbit and Robot and Ribbit, I Yam a Donkey, Bee-Wigged, Itty Bitty, and the Sock Monkey series. She has also created books with her husband, Tom Angleberger, including Crankee Doodle and the Inspector Flytrap series. Registration is required to participate in this virtual event.
