SHOPLIFTING BY ASPORTATION C266 S30A

RIVER ST
Cambridge Police placed Richard Payne, 47, a resident of Cambridge was placed under arrest for 2 counts of Shoplifting as well as 1 count of Assault and Battery on Police Officer. Mr. Payne was stopped by officers on Putnam Avenue after he matched the description of a suspect from a shoplifting that had just occurred located at the corner of River Street and Putnam Avenue. Mr. Payne was walked back to the local business where the reporting party identified him as the individual who had shoplifted multiple items. As Mr. Payne was being helped into the transportation wagon he turned and spit on officer's assisting him. While attempting to locate the stolen items officers were approached by an employee of another business who stated that Mr. Payne had also just stolen from their store. After a review of the surveillance video Mr. Payne was charged with a second count of Shoplifting.
