Supporting Veterans through PGA Hope Cambridge

A golfer prepares to puts at Fresh Pond Golf Course

This fall, Fresh Pond Golf Course was excited to introduce PGA HOPE Cambridge. PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America.

PGA HOPE introduces golf to veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The free program serves veterans across New England with an emphasis on helping those with physical and emotional disabilities who would most benefit from the initiative.

The program at Fresh Pond Golf Course allowed for 10 veterans to get off a long New England waitlist to participate in this lifesaving program. The program met for six weeks, covering golf techniques including the golf swing, short game, and putting. Participants also learned about course management and golf etiquette. During the final week of the program, participants played a scramble using the skills they acquired during the program and celebrated with a meal at VFW 8818.

If you know a veteran who could benefit from this program, please reach out to Jo-Anna Krupa, Director of Fresh Pond Golf Course, at JKrupa@cambridgema.gov.
