The City of Cambridge Community Development Department is pleased to announce the relaunch of the Cambridge Legacy Business Program on May 7, 2021. This program is designed to recognize a valuable cultural asset -- longstanding businesses that have served the Cambridge community for 25 years or more. Click here for a current list of Cambridge’s Legacy Businesses.

Legacy Businesses will be:

  • Recognized annually during the city’s National Small Business Week celebration;
  • Highlighted in the city’s Legacy Business webpage;
  • Eligible to receive educational and promotional assistance that encourages continued viability.

“Our local businesses are an important part of our community and I am pleased that we are relaunching this new program to celebrate some of Cambridge’s long-standing businesses,” said Cambridge City Manager Louis A. DePasquale.

The entire Cambridge community will have an opportunity to help identify legacy businesses. Business owners may also nominate themselves. Nominees will need to confirm their eligibility by completing the Legacy Business Certification Form that will be reviewed by the Community Development Department (CDD) and the Cambridge Historical Commission (CHC). CDD’s Economic Development staff will be available to assist nominees to confirm their eligibility.

“The Legacy Business Program is one of many city efforts to support our local businesses that make Cambridge special,” said Iram Farooq, Assistant City Manager for Community Development. “I encourage residents and business owners to show their support by nominating businesses and by shopping local.”
