Application Period for New Units at 52 New Street is Open Until August 29

Just-A-Start (JAS) is pleased to announce that the application period is now open for 106 new affordable apartments at 52 New Street in Cambridge, MA. Applications must be received by JAS on or before the deadline of Thursday, August 29, 2025 at 3 p.m.Click here to fill out the application online or for more information about the lottery process. The lottery will occur on September 16th, 2025 at 3 p.m. 

JAS prefers applications to be filled out online but will accept hard copies, which are available at the following locations during their regular business hours:

• Cambridge Public Library O’Neill Branch - 70 Rindge Avenue
• Cambridge Public Library Main Branch - 449 Broadway
• Cambridge City Hall - 795 Massachusetts Avenue & 344 Broadway
• Cambridge Housing Authority

About 52 New Street

52 New Street will provide 106 new, affordable, one-, two-, and three-bedroom units in North Cambridge. Adjacent to Danehy Park and the Cambridge Universal Playground, the building is also in close proximity to Fresh Pond, the Alewife MBTA station, and dozens of local shops and restaurants. The development has been built to Passive House International standards, ensuring maximum energy efficiency with features such as a robust thermal envelope and efficient HVAC systems. It also contains a range of amenities including two exterior upper-level decks, a large community room, fitness center, play area, and business center.

JAS has developed this income-restricted apartment building with funding from the City of Cambridge and the Cambridge Affordable Housing Trust.

The New Street project was the first development to take advantage of the increased density and as-of-right permitting path available under the Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO). This new 100% affordable building will welcome its first residents later this year.
