Firefighter Aaron Young of Ladder Company No. 1, group 3, was commended per General Order No. 32; Series of 2022 for effecting a rescue over a 35' ladder during the fire at 2nd alarm, Box 2-38.

On Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 0028 hours, Emergency Communications received a 911 call reporting a fire at 171 River St. Upon arrival, companies reported smoke showing from a 3-story, occupied wood-frame dwelling.

Ladder Company No. 1, assisted by Ladder Company No. 3, raised a 35' ladder to a victim straddling a window on the third floor with smoke pushing out of the window. Firefighter Aaron Young of Ladder Company No. 1 ascended the ladder and brought the victim to safety. This operation, which resulted in a safe rescue of a victim from a smoke charge environment, was effected under difficult conditions. The victim later reported that he was prepared to jump until firefighters arrived.

FF Young commented that his experience and training is what allowed him to effect this rescue under these conditions.

Nice work!
