Cambridge Police Recover Ghost Gun and Fentanyl; Suspect Arrested After Crashing Into Light Pole and Tree

The Cambridge Police Department today announced the recovery of a ghost gun, two magazines, ammunition, fentanyl, and credit cards after the operator of a U-Haul van crashed into a light pole and tree on Rindge Avenue early this morning and then attempted to leave the area. While responding and investigating the hit-and-run at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, officers spoke with a witness who stated the driver of a U-Haul traveled towards Porter Square following a crash. A vehicle matching the description was located by officers in the area of the 2100 block of Massachusetts Avenue with significant front-end damage and the operator was still in the driver’s seat.

The driver could not produce a license and officers observed a magazine for a handgun on a floormat. A semi-automatic handgun, which was later determined to be a ghost gun, was also located under the passenger seat. The driver was not able to prove a license to carry a firearm and was placed under arrest. Upon further investigation, officers were also able to locate fentanyl in the U-Haul. The ghost gun, drugs and other evidence was secured by officers.

Alejandro Trigo, 27, Brookline, MA, faces the following charges:

• Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition without an FID Card
• Possession of a Class A Drug
• Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Leaving the Scene of Property Damage
• Providing a False Name After Arrest
• Marked Lanes Violation

Trigo was scheduled to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court this morning. 

The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
