Expect road closures and traffic impacts from the REI Co-op 5K Road Race, which will take place in North Point/Cambridge Crossing on Sunday, June 5, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The race's route begins and ends at the REI Co-op at 181 Morgan Ave., and explores Cambridge Crossing and the waterfront along North Point Park. Click here for a map of the double-loop course, which goes down Morgan Avenue to Education Circle, through North Point Park to Education Street, right on Museum Way, left on Education Circle, right on Jacobs Street, right on Childs Street, left on Water Street and left on Morgan Avenue. Expect road closures and traffic impacts. 

Road closures include: 

  • North First Street, from Morgan Avenue to Jacobs Street, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Morgan Avenue, from North First Street to Jacobs Street, from 9:15 a.m. to 9:35 a.m.

The following roads will having rolling closures monitored by the Cambridge Police Department:

  • Morgan Avenue, from Water Street to Jacobs Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:10 a.m.
  • Water Street, from Morgan Avenue to Jacobs Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Jacobs Street, from Child Street to Morgan Avenue, from 9:35 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Education Circle and Education Street, from 9:35 a.m. to 10:05 a.m.
  • Museum Way, from Education Street to Education Circle, from 9:35 a.m. to 10:05 a.m.

Other events that will cause some traffic impacts include:

  • The Kittie Knox Ride on Sunday, June 5, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. around Boston, Cambridge, Watertown and Waltham. The community bike ride celebrates Katherine “Kittie” Knox, a bi-racial woman cyclist and barrier-breaker in the 1890s. The Cambridge portion of the route takes riders over the Longfellow Bridge to Broadway, turns left on Galileo Galilei Way, turns right on Main Street, turns left on Sidney Street, turns right on Chestnut Street, turns left on Magazine Street and turns right onto Dr. Paul Dudley White Bike Path along the Charles River/Memorial Drive, ending at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

  • The new Harvard Square Open Market will kick off on Sunday, June 5, from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., and continue every Sunday through November 20. The market features local artisans, artists, designers, and vintage dealers. Church Street will be closed between Massachusetts Avenue and Brattle Street.
