Every year, the Cambridge Youth Council (CYC) leads a community fundraiser to support local nonprofit organizations that offer support services to vulnerable community members. Typically, the money raised is split between several nonprofits. This year, in partnership with the CRLS Black Student Union (BSU), CYC focused on raising funds to benefit a single nonprofit: the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee (CEOC).
CEOC’s services extend from helping people get healthcare, food, and housing, assisting people in filing their taxes, applying for college financial aid, and so much more. The organization celebrated its 60th anniversary this spring and has supported thousands of Cambridge residents during its six decades of operation.
CYC and BSU members led fundraising efforts throughout the spring, with the goal of raising $10,000 by Friday, May 9. Thanks to immense community support and a generous $5,000 match from the Cambridge Community Foundation, the teens exceeded this goal and raised $16,000!
CYC and BSU selected CEOC because of its unwavering commitment to ending poverty in Cambridge. The teens are thrilled to contribute to ensuring CEOC’s services continue to reach as many Cambridge residents in need as possible.
