Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui and City Manager Louis A. DePasquale joined members of the Veterans Services Department, Cambridge Police and Cambridge Fire to place flags at the graves of our fallen in the Veterans section of the Cambridge Cemetery. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Memorial Day observances will feature several virtual events and remembrances.
The Week will kick off with a Veterans’ Day Observance on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., at Cambridge Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at 12 p.m. at American Legion Marsh Post #442. Activities during the week include acupuncture, guided meditation, fitness and nutrition tips, restorative therapy, art workshops, social gatherings, food and refreshments.
The City of Cambridge’s Department of Veterans’ Services will decorate the graves of Veterans interred in the War Lots of the Cambridge Cemetery with American Flags on May 25-26. Regrettably, the Veterans’ Department is not able to decorate the graves of veterans buried in private lots. However, grave flags will be available for family and friends at various locations.

Veterans who served during the Korean War will be honored with the Ambassador for Peace Medal during a ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 1 p.m., in the Great Hall of Flags at the Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon St., Boston.
