LIBRARY 21 COMMITTEE INVITES PUBLIC OPINION FOR JULY 25TH MEETING:
WHAT DO YOU WANT IN LIBRARY SERVICES?
The Library 21 Committee will hold it's last meeting of the summer on July 25, 1996 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Central Square Branch of the Cambridge Public Library. The meeting will focus on education about public library trends and on what the audience members would like to see in a modern library system for Cambridge. Patience Jackson, Library Building Consultant for the State Board of Library Commissioners, has been invited to give us ideas of what's possible in library services.
After Ms. Jackson's presentation, the audience will be broken into small discussion groups to give their opinions on questions that are basic to planning a library system, namely: what are the most important roles a library should play in Cambridge, what do I personally want the library system to be, what kinds of services do I use now and what would I like to have? This will be the first, but by no means the last, time when people who live and/or work in Cambridge will be asked by the Committee to "envision" an ideal library system.
The Library 21 Committee was established by a March 25, 1996 City Council Order and appointed by the City Manager to develop and implement a city-wide process for 1) identifying the roles and services for a new library system and 2) translating these into physical requirements for a main library building.
