CALEA, the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, awarded the Cambridge Police Department Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation in 2025. The department is now committed to the ongoing, multi-year process required to maintain this accreditation, which is considered the gold standard in law enforcement and aligns with our mission of procedurally just policing. CALEA’s primary focus is on improving how public safety services are provided, with a goal of strengthening crime prevention, maintaining fair and non-discriminatory hiring practices, and increasing interagency cooperation -- all to serve in increasing community and staff confidence in the department. As part of the process, Cambridge Police invites the public to comment directly to CALEA.The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing society– from education and politics to art and healthcare. How does the AI revolution impact open data, such as the hundreds of free datasets that Cambridge provides on its Open Data Portal?

Starting on January 26, 2026, City Council, BZA and Planning Board meeting agendas, minutes, and video streaming will be available through this new portal. Other Boards and Commissions will follow at a date to be communicated later.

The city’s Open Data Program makes government data easily available in useful formats, and is intended to increase transparency, foster engagement among residents, and create new opportunities for collaboration between Cambridge and the public.

The Cambridge Open Data Department will host a hands-on public workshop on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Rossi Room at the Main Library, 449 Broadway.
