July 8, 2013

On Thursday, July 11 (weather permitting), The City’s Contractor, Tasco Construction Company, will be performing the final roadway paving on Shea Road, Woodbridge Street, Meacham Road and Locke Street. During this work, no vehicles will be allowed to park on any of the streets mentioned above. The paving of the roadways is expected to take one day to complete. General work hours will be from 7AM to 5PM and “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 48 hours in advance of the paving operation. .

The City’s Contractor will be out working on ramps on the various streets and raised intersections on Woodbridge Street and Meacham Road. Residents will be notified when the paving schedule is finalized. Due to the roadway conditions, street cleaning for Meacham Road, Woodbridge Street, Locke Street and Shea Road has been cancelled this week.

This work is being performed in preparation for the final paving, which is currently scheduled for the week of June 3. During this work, no vehicles will be allowed to park on any of the streets mentioned above. The grinding of the roadways is expected to take one day to complete.

Beginning Monday, April 29, 2013, the City’s contractor, Tasco Construction Company, will be constructing two (2) new manhole structures at the dead end section of Locke Street. These manhole structures are related to the drainage system in the neighborhood. Given the size of the work zone needed, a small section of the street will be closed. This work is expected to be completed within 5 to 7 business days. During general work hours (Monday thru Friday 7am-4pm), the following properties on Locke Street will not have access to their driveways or parking in the immediate area:

Locke Street #49, #48, #46, #45, #44, #41-43, #42, #40. Notifications were distributed to affected properties on April 26, 2013.

The City’s Contractor, Tasco Construction Company, will mobilize for construction for during the week of April 1, 2013. Major construction activity is expected to be completed early Summer 2013. On Monday, April 1, crews will begin performing sidewalk work on the south side of Locke Street (closest to Massachusetts Avenue) between Shea Road and Meacham Road. Please note that Street Cleaning in Cambridge begins on Monday, April 1 and we encourage you to check signs posted in your neighborhood to avoid a ticket or tow.

The City's contractor, Tasco Construction Company, mobilized for construction during the week of August 20, 2012. To date, the contractor has completed the majority of the drainage work (catch basins, manholes, laterals) as well as the repair of the trenches associated with the drainage work. 

The contractor will be begin placing sidewalks on Friday, October 5. The work will occur in the order listed below, with each street taking 2 to 4 days to complete (weather permitting).  

  • Locke Street – Somerville side
  • Shea Street – Arlington side
  • Meacham – Arlington side, including new tree pits that the City Arborist identified. A total of 18 new trees will be added on Meacham.

Project staff will hand deliver driveway notices to each affected property prior to their driveway being out of service.

Major construction activity will continue through November (weather permitting), with additional finish work to be scheduled for next spring, following a winter construction moratorium.

The City has awarded a contract for the reconstruction of Meacham Road, Woodbridge Street Shea Road and Locke Street to the Tasco Construction Company.

The contractor will begin to mobilize for construction during the week of August 20, 2012. Major construction activity will continue for approximately 3 months, with additional finish work to be scheduled for next spring, following a winter construction moratorium.

General work hours will be 7AM to 4 PM, Monday-Friday. “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of construction; please be sure to check posted signs for exact dates and times. When work occurs directly in front of driveways or entryways, the contractor will coordinate access directly with residents.

 

The plans for this project, which incorporate neighborhood input received at a December 14, 2011 community meeting, include:

  • Reconstructed sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and roadways on all four streets;
  • A new curb extension and a crosswalk on Meacham Rd at Locke St to better define the intersection;
  • A curb extension on Locke St at Woodbridge St, which addresses existing access concerns, minimizes impacts on residential on street parking, and provides an opportunity for additional plantings;
  • New “No Parking Here to Corner” signs at intersections; and,
  • Additional street trees.

This project is part of a larger Chapter 90 contract.  Chapter 90 contracts are funded by the state and managed by the Public Works Department. They are a major portion of the Engineering Division's five year plan. Construction generally includes surface enhancements such as pavement, sidewalk and pedestrian ramp reconstruction, traffic calming, and greenscaping. Minor stormwater management is also occasionally included.
