This project has been completed. No further updates to this project page will be made.

December 19, 2014

On Monday, December 22, the City’s contractor, D’Allessandro Corporation, will remobilize to Mt. Auburn Street at Longfellow Road to perform sidewalk work. NStar Gas and the Cambridge Water Department have recently resolved a utility conflict on Mt. Auburn Street at Longfellow Road. D’Allessandro Corporation will be installing new curbs and will also place temporary asphalt on the sidewalk to ensure favorable conditions for pedestrians during the winter season. Concrete sidewalks will be poured at this location in spring 2015. During this operation, access to and from Longfellow Road will not be effected. This work is expected to take 2 days to complete and crews will make every effort to complete this work as soon as possible.

Phases of Construction

• Beginning May 6, 2013, three (3) catch basins and one (1) manhole will be installed to improve drainage.

• Later in May 2013, NStar Gas will replace their gas main on Longfellow Road. A separate notice will be delivered to residents before this work begins.

• After NStar Gas is completed, the city’s contractor will return to Longfellow Road to reconstruct the road, driveways and enhanced planting areas. A separate notice will be delivered prior to this work beginning.

Project Background
The design of Longfellow Road was completed in close collaboration with residents. Community meetings were held in March and April of 2012.

Longfellow Road will be transformed into a residential shared street, which will:

• Provide extensive opportunities for street trees and other plantings.

• Improve deteriorating roadway and sidewalk infrastructure.

• Provide an accessible path for pedestrians.

• Enhance the area for all users.

 What to Expect During Construction
• General work hours will be 7am – 4pm, Monday thru Friday. If any night or weekend work is required by the contractor, you will be notified with a separate notice.

• If the project requires a street closure, you will be notified in advance.

• “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of construction; please be sure to check posted signs for exact dates and times.

• When work occurs directly in front of driveways or entryways, the contractor will coordinate access directly with residents and businesses.
