Beginning Sunday, October 14th (weather permitting), the City’s contractor, E J Paving, will be performing roadway grinding and paving operations to enhance the road conditions on Mass Ave and Somerville Ave. in Porter Square.

Work will take place on Somerville Ave. from the City line to Mass Ave. and on Mass Ave. from Porter Square to Beech Street. This operation is expected to take place over five nights, through Friday, October 19th. Due to heavy vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic during daytime hours, a noise ordinance has been approved for the work to take place during the hours of 10PM and 5AM.

We understand that this overnight work is disruptive, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

What to Expect During Construction

  • Work hours will be 10PM to 5AM.
  • Parking restrictions will be in place. Please note “No Parking” signs.
  • Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
  • Police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic management.
  • Crews will make every effort to open the roadway as soon as possible.
  • The road will be closed, but abutters will maintain access.
