The Street and Sidewalk Maintenance Division maintains 125 miles of streets, over 200 miles of sidewalks, and more than 5,000 curb ramps.
The Street and Sidewalk Maintenance Division permits and inspects private and institutional construction in the public way (including sidewalks and ramps, streets, sewer connections, drainage structures, and cranes), permits and inspects business sidewalk use (including newsracks, A-frame signs, and outdoor dining), consults with contractors and utility companies, and provides technical assistance to homeowners.
Residents are encouraged to report potholes and other street and sidewalk defects by using Commonwealth Connect.
