Since 1991, the City’s Mandatory Recycling Ordinance has required all buildings recycle. Businesses can arrange for curbside pickup with any hauler licensed in Cambridge. Small businesses with 50 employee or less may use the Recycling Center during open hours only.

All materials subject to Massachusetts Waste Bans are considered designated recyclables in addition to the list below. The City reserves the right to add or remove recyclable materials as defined in the Rules and Regulations at any time. The following materials shall be designated as recyclable materials:

  • Construction Waste (asphalt, brick & concrete)

Commercial Food Waste Ban went into effect in Massachusetts in 2014. RecyclingWorks is a resource to help you with recycling and compliance with the food waste ban. Consider donating food from your business to Cambridge-based Food for Free. The EPA's Food Recovery Challenge may be of interest to your business.
