Urban Forestry Management Plan

Earthwatch Report for the Management of the Urban Forest

The City of Cambridge is committed to maintaining a healthy urban forest, and has been awarded a Tree City USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation for 18 consecutive years.   Due to the City’s expansion of their urban forest education program and the improvement of their planting and management practices they have been awarded Growth Awards from the National Arbor Day Foundation for the past three years. The next step was to develop an urban forest management plan that would guide and integrate its urban forest activities with the City’s other policies and planning efforts, including planning for resilience to global change.

Earthwatch has supported the City of Cambridge in developing an Urban Forest Management Plan, which contains the City’s present policies and guidelines, provides goals, objectives, and targets for their urban forest future, as well as strategies to achieve these. The process incorporated findings from Earthwatch’s scientific research and actively engaged and educated the local community to build a more informed citizenry that actively supports a healthy and resilient urban environment.
