Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Workforce Plan for Recruitment, Hiring, and Promotion (RHP) Project

RHP Project Background

In late Fall of 2018, the City issued a request for proposals for the development and implementation of a recruitment, hiring, and promotion plan which is intended to increase the overall diversity of its staff, and to promote, advance and enhance equitable and inclusive recruitment, hiring, and promotion policies and practices at all levels of its workforce. A team of seven City employees, including the Equity and Inclusion Director, evaluated each proposal submitted, and conducted formal, in-person interviews with each organization that submitted a proposal.

RHP Project Goals

The goal of this project is the development of, along with implementation methods for, a citywide workforce diversity, equity and inclusion plan for recruitment, hiring and promotion. This citywide project, when fully implemented, will result in processes, policies and procedures for a more diverse, inclusive and equitable work environment and culture, all to the benefit of the City’s employees, and the people who live, work and otherwise make Cambridge a significant part of their lives.

The City’s RHP Project Partners

After competitive bidding and thorough and rigorous evaluation processes, the City’s team unanimously selected Working IDEAL, a diverse group of nationally recognized experts with decades of demonstrated experience in human resources, labor and employment law, diversity, equity, and inclusion, to carry out this project. Their methodology is wholly consistent with the City’s firm belief that large-scale policy and planning efforts, like this one, are best served and executed when developed in collaboration with and with the perspectives and insights of individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities.
