Knowledge from Shadow

Once in a while, one celestial object would travel in front of another, hiding part or all of the latter object from our view. This is called occultation. Although we see "less" during an occultation event, we are actually able to learn "more" about the physical properties of the celestial bodies. In this month’s Cosmos Talk, we will take a tour of a number of occultation events, including lunar and solar eclipses, transit of Venus, eclipsing binary stars, to name a few, and examine what we have learned from them.

Program is free and open to the public.
