Women's History Month Screening and Discussion: The Six Triple Eight Documentary (Main)
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2024
Join us for the screening of the Six Triple Eight documentary followed by a discussion.
In the winter of 1945, 855 African American soldiers from the U.S. Army's Women's Army Corps (WACs) were sent to England and France to resolve the back log of two year's worth of mail. Despite racism and sexism, the 688th Central Post Directory Battalion (the Six Triple Eight) managed to clear over 17 million pieces of mail, thus raising morale for service members and their families across the globe. In 2022, the Six Triple Eight were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal by President Biden. Cosponsored by the Governor's Women Veterans Advisory Committee, City of Cambridge, Town of Billerica, and the Women's Veteran Network. Registration is required.
