The Director of Arts & Cultural Planning works with other departments in the City to advance arts and culture as an essential component to a high quality of life in a sustainable, inclusive, and connected Cambridge.
Guided by the recommendations of the 2019 Mayor’s Art Task Force, the work of the director seeks to expand opportunities where arts, culture, and creativity are catalysts for social change and civic engagement by:
- Understanding the needs of artists and arts organizations in Cambridge
- Elevate the role of artists and cultural producers in City-sponsored projects and initiatives
- Protect existing cultural resources and incentivize the creation of new assets
- Increase appreciation for arts and culture to prevent cultural displacement
In partnership with Cambridge Arts and Community Development Department, the work of the Director seeks to ensure that Cambridge remains a thriving place for artists, arts organizations, and residents of all backgrounds.
