Grave Flags

The City of Cambridge’s Department of Veterans’ Services will decorate the graves of Veterans interred in the War Lots of the Cambridge Cemetery with American Flags on May 25-26.  Assisting in the placing of flags will be members of the Cambridge Veterans’ Organization, Cambridge Boys Scouts, North Cambridge Little Leaguers and elected officials.  Regrettably, the Veterans’ Department is not able to decorate the graves of veterans buried in private lots.

Grave Flags, however, will be available for family and friends at the following locations and times:

Cambridge Veterans’ Services, 51 Inman St., Cambridge, Second Floor
Monday – 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday -Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Friday 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon, May 20-24.

Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue
Main Office, Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. May 20-24.
On Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26 at Cemetery entrance, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St. Gate Information Office, 617-547-7105
Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., May 20-24.

Support veterans by volunteering with the Cambridge Department of Veterans’ Services. On Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, take a shift during the day placing flags on gravesites at Cambridge Cemetery.

Additionally on Monday, May 27, from 9 a.m. 12 p.m., help staff the Memorial Day parade and ceremony by guiding visitors and distributing programs along the parade route from Cambridge Common to Cambridge Cemetery. Memorial Day events are important and meaningful for veterans and their families.
