Learn to navigate Cambridge by bike so you can ride to school, safe and fun!

CLRS is teaming up with the City of Cambridge and Landry's to help your 9th grader learn the basics of safe and fun bicycle riding in Cambridge. We're offering a two-session lesson, on August 31 & September 2, to teach on-bike skills to incoming freshman at CLRS. Students who participate on both days will learn:

• Rules and Responsibilities of the road.
• How to adjust your bike and helmet to fit you properly.
• Basic maintenance to keep you bike riding safe and smooth.
• Start and stop efficiently, especially in traffic and at red lights.
• Become a pro at shifting gears.
• Steer out of trouble.
• Ride safely and legally in roadway traffic.
• Participate in group-rides with your friends.
• Make connections with the local bicycling community.
• And more!

At the end of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion allowing them to bike to school on their own accord. And all participants will receive free helmets and lights.

Dates: August 31st AND September 2nd (attendance is required for both days since this is a two-session course).

Times: 9am, 11am or 1pm (each session is 1.5 hours)
Cost: Free for incoming 9th grade students! We want to encourage safe biking as much as possible!
How to sign up: Email Jennifer Lawrence at jlawrence@cambridgema.gov with the time of day you would like to participate.

What to bring and wear: Bring your bike (in good working condition), your helmet (required), water bottle, closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops), and whatever else you need to be comfortable. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions that day.

Instructor: Galen Mook is an experienced League Cycling Instructor who has taught bicycling skills to students aged 5 to 65+. Galen works as Landry's marketing & advocacy associate, and he's an all-season bike commuter.
