Description

Composer Focus will hold the second concert of its second season with music by Bohuslav Martinů. Martinů was a Czech composer who blended innovations of modernist music with a unique lyrical voice and a propulsive sense of rhythm, both drawing strongly from the folk music tradition. A composer of almost 400 works, Martinů had an affinity for string instruments. This concert will feature some of his greatest pieces for strings: his Duo for Violin and Cello, Cello Sonata No. 2, and String Quartet No. 7.
