Calendar event imageThe City of Cambridge Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) will hold a Patriots' Day Observance event on Monday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m., on the Cambridge Common, located outside of Harvard Square surrounded by Massachusetts Avenue, Garden Street and Waterhouse Street.

DVS Acting Director Cynthia Harris will serve as Master of Ceremonies and Cambridge Vice Mayor Marc C. McGovern, Chair of the Human Services and Veterans Committee, will give the city’s greetings. Revolutionary Historian, Vincent Dixon will provide a brief history of William Dawes’ midnight ride and the event will be highlighted by a reenactment of that historic horseback ride from Boston to Cambridge alerting the colonists of the British threat of 1775.
Charles Sullivan, Executive Director of the Cambridge Historical Commission will give the keynote address. Vocalist Lorraine Victoria Kanyike will perform the American National Anthem.

The event will also include a sweet treat from Cookie Monstah, Espresso Dave’s Coffee and participation by the Massachusetts Army National Guard unit 181 Infantry Battalion, along with a Humvee display.
