Enjoy a live performance featuring selected scenes from the play, The Convert, followed by a moderated discussion between the actors and audience.  The program is presented by Central Square Theater, in collaboration with the City of Cambridge Employees’ Committee on Diversity, the City Manager’s Office, and Mayor E. Denise Simmons.  This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The Convert is set in 1896 Rhodesia (modern-day Zimbabwe) and examines the cultural and religious clashes that continue to shape the post-colonial world. The City of Cambridge Employees’ Committee on Diversity hopes to use the post-performance discussion to tie the selected scenes from The Convert to the current Black Lives Matter movement in Cambridge.  Social justice topics that may be discussed include: how persistent injustice can impact identity; how self-knowledge can give one the strength to face injustice; and how we can better articulate and advance social justice matters. While the City of Cambridge Black History Month program on Feb. 23 is free, interested persons who would like to see the full production, which is running through Feb. 28, can use promotion code CAMBHM to receive a 15% discount off adult tickets. Tickets can be purchased online at: https://www.centralsquaretheater.org or by calling 617-576-9278, Ext. 1.

The City of Cambridge Employees' Committee on Diversity is also celebrating Black History Month with a special exhibition by Bohemian Arts Boston, Cambridge and Beyond on display at City Hall during the month of February. The exhibit features nine artists.
