    • 2024 CPL Eclipse Celebration: Eclipse Chalk Art Drop-in Craft (Main)

      Get ready for the upcoming solar eclipse by creating your very own picture of an eclipse using chalk in the Children's Room at the Main Library. This is a self-guided activity for children of all ages and their caregivers. This event is part of the Library's 2024 Eclipse Celebration.       This Flamenco Dance class for Cambridge seniors age 60 and older teaches the various rhythms of different Palos (genre) of flamenco. You will learn coordination of footwork, body, arms, and fingers movements.

    • Wellness for Seniors: Tai Chi Paradigm

      Main Library, Community Room, 449 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138

      Join us in this 12-week Tai Chi practice, which focuses on the mind and body connection. Tai Chi is a fluid sequence of movements choreographed in a low impact routine. Sifu Mynor Diaz has been learning and teaching Tai Chi classes for over 20 years. He has taught classes at five VA Boston Healthcare System locations and at Senior Centers. Note: We will be running two separate Tai Chi Paradigm series this year, a Wednesday series and a Friday series. Due to the popularity of this series, we expect participats to attend all the classes.       Join us for a screening of Q, followed by a Q&A with the Director, Jude Chehab. An intimate and haunting portrayal of a quest for love and acceptance at any cost, Q depicts the considerable influence of a secretive matriarchal religious order in Lebanon on 3 generations of women in the Chehab family. Award-winning filmmaker Jude Chehab potently documents the unspoken ties and consequences of loyalty that have bonded her mother, grandmother and herself to the mysterious organization. Q won the Albert Maysles award for the Best New Documentary Director at Tribeca Film Festival in 2023. This event is cosponsored by the Community Art Center.

      What's a zine? And how do I make one? Come find out! Kids are invited to explore making, copying, sharing, and swapping zines. Making zines will include activities like writing, drawing, and collage. Recommended for ages 7 and up. Snacks are provided!

    • Magic Tree House Book Group (O'Connell/Virtual)

      Our Magic Tree House book group for kids ages 5-10 meets the first Friday of the month. Check out a copy of the book beforehand, or download it from the Libby app. Our April book is Thanksgiving on Thursday. This book group will meet virtually and in person at the O'Connell Branch. Please register below if you would like to attend virtually. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants one hour before the event. Need a laptop or hotspot to participate?
