West Cambridge Youth & Community Ctr. Dedication Ceremony
Friday Sept. 25, 6-8 p.m., 680 Huron Ave, Cambridge
The City of Cambridge will hold a special dedication ceremony for the new Mayor Sheila Doyle Russell West Cambridge Youth and Community Center, named in honor of the former Cambridge Mayor and long-time youth advocate.
The new “green” building in West Cambridge was designed by Cambridge Seven Associates (the firm that designed the Liberty Hotel, the Hall of Fame for the New England Patriots and Boston Children's Museum). Everyone involved is very proud of this great, new civic building!
This beautiful facility is one of five youth centers within the Department of Human Service programs that provides an array of social, recreational and educational activities to the Cambridge community. At a time when so many cities are closing down after school programs for our kids, Cambridge is actually stepping up the programming and offering better options for after school, summer and weekend programs for this city’s youth.
The West Cambridge Youth and Community Center is the third new municipal building that Cambridge has dedicated this year that utilizes green building technologies. January marked the opening of the newly renovated War Memorial Recreation Center on Cambridge Street and February commemorated the opening of the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility on Sixth Street. Later this year, Cambridge expects to celebrate the grand reopening of the long awaited new Main Library.
