City of Cambridge Holiday Closures

Most Cambridge city offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26 in observance of the Christmas holiday.  Additionally, city offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 in observance of the New Year’s Holiday, although Cambridge City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Ave., will be open for the City Council Inauguration, at 10 a.m., in the Sullivan Chamber.

Certain city departments and services will have varying holiday hours and closures, including trash/recycling pick-up, street cleaning and parking meters. Please see information below:

The Cambridge Election Commission, 51 Inman St., will be open from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, but will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26.
Cambridge Public Library Holiday Hours for all branches:
In observance of the holidays, Cambridge Libraries will be closed Dec 24-26 and Jan. 1-2. The libraries will, however, be open their regular hours on Friday, Dec. 23.

Cambridge Public Health Department administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2, 2012.

The Traffic Parking &Transportation Department, 344 Broadway will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan 2, 2012.  Please note that 2011 Resident Permits do not expire until Jan. 31, 2012.

Parking Meters will not be in effect on the following dates:
Monday, Dec. 26
Monday, Jan. 2

Parking Meters are in effect as signed Monday – Saturday, except for holidays listed above and will be in effect on Friday, Dec 23, Saturday, Dec. 24 and Saturday, Dec. 31. Parking Meters are not in effect on Sundays.

Public Works Trash, Recycling, Street Cleaning and Cemetery Schedule

Trash and Recycling Collection
There will be no change in the curbside trash and recycling pickup during the weeks of Dec. 19 and Dec. 26. Curbside trash and recycling collection will take place on your regular pick up day, both weeks.  There will be no trash or recycling collection on Monday, Jan. 2 in observance of the New Year's Day holiday.  Collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of that week.

Street Cleaning
Regularly scheduled street cleaning will take place during the week of Dec. 19.  There will be no street cleaning on Monday, Dec. 26.   Street cleaning will end for the season on Wednesday, Dec. 28.

The Recycling Drop-off Center
The Recycling Drop-off Center will be open on Christmas Eve (Saturday, Dec. 24) and on New Year's Eve (Saturday, Dec. 31).

Christmas Tree Collection
Curbside collection of bare Christmas trees (weather permitting), will take place Tuesday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 13, on your regular trash/recycling day. Decorations and stands must be removed and trees should not be in a plastic bag. Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Ave.
Cambridge Cemetery gates will be open from 7 a.m. until dusk throughout the holiday season.
Please note Cemetery and Public Works Administrative Offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 23, Monday, Dec. 26 and Monday, Jan. 2. 

Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP)

King Open Extended Day Program will be open on Friday, Dec. 23.

Citywide Senior Center, 806 Massachusetts Ave.*
Friday, Dec. 23, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. for meals. There will be no classes or senior shuttle bus service.
*The Council on Aging office and North Cambridge Senior Center will be closed on Dec. 23.
Dec. 24-26 – Senior Centers will be closed.
Saturday, Dec. 31, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Meals will be served at Citywide Senior Center only.
Monday, Jan. 2 – Senior Centers will be closed.

Other than those listed above, there are no DHSP programs Dec. 24-26 or Dec. 31-Jan. 2.
