2013 Danehy Park Day

Once again this year the Cambridge Fire Department will be participating in Danehy Park Day, September 20th, from 11am to 4pm.  Engine 8, Ladder 4, and Squad 4 will be there for the kids to see and learn about.  Our firefighters will answer fire safety questions and explain the various pieces of apparatus and the equipment on them.

The State's Fire Sprinkler Trailer and Safety House will also be there.  Built to show 10-15 people at a time, it contains raised seating so the kids can view a home's interior and help the instructors pick out the fire and home safety issues depicted in the kitchen and living rooms.  They next move to a small bedroom, which is then filled with fake smoke, setting off the alarm.  Feeling the warm door (don't go that way!), the kids are directed out the window and down the three foot ladder to the ground.  After this, the instructors will light a shirt on fire in an enclosed viewing room and those outside will see the sprinkler detector activated by the rising smoke, water released, and the fire extinguished.

Kids have a great time, so we hope to see you there!
