CAMBRIDGE, MA, April 17—On Wednesday, April 24, at 6 p.m., the Cambridge Public Library will host Natalie Dykstra in conversation with Washington Post art critic Sebastian Smee about her new book Chasing Beauty: The Life of Isabella Stewart Gardner. This event is hybrid, and registration is required.
Called a "wise, captivating book" by Stacy Schiff and "an elegant depiction of a larger-than-life trailblazer" by Publisher's Weekly, Chasing Beauty is built upon both original research of previously unexamined documents as well as Dykstra's deep understanding of her subject's complexities and contradictions.
Natalie Dykstra is the author of Clover Adams: A Gilded and Heartbreaking Life. Her work on Isabella Stewart Gardner has won a Public Scholars Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities and an inaugural Robert and Ina Caro Research/Travel Fellowship sponsored by the Biographers International Organization (BIO). Dykstra, emerita professor of English at Hope College in Michigan, lives with her husband in Waltham, MA.
Copies of Chasing Beauty will be available for purchase at the event, and a signing will follow the discussion.
