ADVISORY: Police Respond to False Report of Man with Gun on MIT Campus

At approximately 7:28 a.m., Cambridge Police received a report of a male with a gun inside 77 Massachusetts Avenue, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus building.

Cambridge Police and MIT Police arrived on scene at 7:30 a.m. and officers immediately entered the building to search for any possible suspects.  A thorough search of the building was conducted and a perimeter was established for the purposes of securing the immediate area.

An incident command was established and a coordinated room-by-room search was conducted.  No armed suspects were found in the building or on campus, and police believe that the event, as reported, did not occur.

Detectives began actively investigating the report and following up on all possible leads.  The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
