INFO: Manhole Fire on JFK Street in Harvard Square

The Cambridge Fire Department is currently responding to a report of a manhole fire in the area of JFK Street in Cambridge.  All residents and businesses in the immediate area being evacuated as a precaution.

No reported injuries at this time.

Cambridge Police are on scene diverting traffic as JFK Street between Eliot Street and Mt. Auburn Street has been closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

People are asked to avoid the Harvard Square area and seek alternate routes as some traffic signals are not working.

UPDATE: 1:05 p.m.

Any threat of underground fire has been controlled and extinguished.

Power outage has been isolated to one block of buildings in Harvard Square at JFK St.  Crews are on scene working to restore power.

Mt. Auburn Street is being reopened.

JFK St. remains closed between Memorial Dr. & Mt. Auburn St.  

Traffic lights are out at JFK Street at Memorial Dr. and Massachusetts State Police are controlling traffic at the intersection.
