Cambridge Police Department Promotes New Deputy

The Cambridge Police Department held a ceremony at the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility on the morning of June 14, 2013 to promote a veteran member of the department.

At the ceremony, James A. DeFrancesco was promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

After training as a police cadet and serving as a member of the MIT Police Department, Deputy James A. DeFrancesco joined the Cambridge Police Department in 1983 and has served in numerous functions for over 30 years.

City Manager Robert W. Healy, Deputy City Manager Richard C. Rossi, City Councillors Craig Kelley, David Maher, and Timothy Toomey joined Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas and his Command Staff, city dignitaries, family members, and friends at the ceremony to honor Deputy DeFrancesco and congratulate him on his promotion.

“This is probably and definitely my last promotion ceremony, and it’s one I’m extremely proud of,” said City Manager Robert W. Healy addressing those in attendance.  “Jimmy DeFrancesco has been an invaluable asset to this department and to this city as a whole.”

“A key phrase in Jimmy’s job description is ‘all other duties as may be assigned,’” said Commissioner Robert C. Haas.  “He has taken on every challenge and assignment that has been given to him…and he has my implicit trust.”

Deputy DeFrancesco then recited his oath of office to City Clerk Donna P. Lopez before receiving his badge from Commissioner Haas.
