Back by popular demand, a group of Cambridge teens will be performing their original hip hop songs on the front lawn of Cambridge City Hall on Thursday, October 3rd.

These teenage performers worked all summer with the Cambridge Community Center and Cambridge Police Officers Michael “Whitey” Daniliuk and Anthony Santiago as part of the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program to develop pro-social hip hop.  Through a grant from the Cambridge Arts Council, the teens were able to meet with artistic advisers and purchase equipment used to help them compose and perform their own original hip hop songs.

Fight Navigator, a framework developed by Dr. James Barrett and the Cambridge Health Alliance in collaboration with the Cambridge Police Youth & Family Services Unit and Cambridge youth programs, is designed to address the issue of retaliatory violence and was a crucial part of the teen’s summer program.  This framework helps youth adopt a mindset and utilize specific techniques so that they can respond to threats in a manner that avoids violence but also allows them to save face.

Community members and families are invited to attend and support the teens as they perform their work a second time for the public from 5:30 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 3rd on the front lawn of Cambridge City Hall.

This event will be hosted by DJ Hustle Simmons of Hot 96.9FM.
