Cambridge Police Arrest Two Bicycle Thieves

The Cambridge Police arrested two suspects involved with stealing multiple bicycles early Tuesday morning. 

Just after midnight on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, Cambridge Police officers on patrol observed three males dressed in dark clothing and crouched over two bicycles that were locked to a street sign on Mount Auburn Street.  Once an officer exited their police cruiser, two of the males fled in different directions, while one male remained with the bikes. Officers spoke with Damien Davis, 18, 92 Sumner Street, Boston, and discovered a backpack that contained a wrench and closed ratchet. Additionally, a nearby flower bed revealed open bolt cutters lying in flowers. Officers observed multiple areas on the cable lock around a mountain bike where cuts were attempted and were informed that Davis had a warrant from Dorchester District Court for Assault & Battery.

A second suspect, a juvenile from Dorchester, returned to the scene and asked “can I get those (bolt cutters) back?” He later stated, “I can get a bike whenever I want.”

Both suspects were placed under arrest and charged with Attempted Larceny over $250. The bicycles were taken into custody.
